Why Me?

When I was 20 I took a year off and went backpacking through Europe and part of the USA with my girlfriend. We had an amazing time. She’s gorgeous and could eat and drink anything.  And NEVER put on weight.

I’d been exercising my tush-off since a very young age. I’d always loved physical exercise. But for this one year away, I did what she did! It was an “I’ll have what she’s having” scenario!

I asked myself many times during that year “WHY am I gaining weight”! My 20 year old brain wasn’t putting two and two together!

I was convinced I was pregnant when I returned home. And I  flew back to NZ wearing my sarong, as it’s the only thing that fit me!

I remember being shocked and gutted when I realised I was just sort of fat!   I had a body that needed to be exercised – daily!

Yeah there’s been many times over the years that I’ve felt like I got the short end of the straw!  I’m sure many of you can relate.

I’ve always had to be conscious of what I ate and……ALWAYS had to exercise.

You’re Unique

Thank your Ma and Pa for your genetic make–up. I love that I got my Mums ‘enthusiasm for exercising’ genes. But not so happy with my Dads legs and bushy eyebrow genes!

It’s all about making the best of your assets and minimising attention on your least favourite parts!

I’ve known women through my 30’s and 40’s who could enjoy endless glasses of champagne and still look the same. For me it’s always been instant bloat material. So unfair….rrrrrrrrrrrr!

Accept your uniqueness!  Yeah some of it’s annoying BUT you can’t make changes by being annoyed and p…d off with your body. It’s about accepting your genetic makeup and putting the effort in to find out what works best for you.

Weight Gain Over 50?

When your hormones are out of whack – weight gain is inevitable. No matter how hard you train or what crazy diets you go on.

Get Your Hormones Tested

In this age bracket – this is a ‘must-do’. You need a level playing field to make changes. Don’t want to go down the hormone replacement path?   At least you’ll be armed with the right information about YOUR unique body. And you can find alternative ways of getting the best out of it.

Put The Work In!

Yeah – annoying I know – but life is not over yet. You’ve got another good 30-40 years on this planet – if not more. Don’t give up or give in!

Focus on making your body strong and fit FIRST! The weight loss will come.

The fitter you are – the cleaner you’ll eat – the healthier you’ll be!

There’s No One-Size Fits All!

Research, research your butt off!

Be curious, be interested, be a food and exercise detective!

It takes time and patience to find a way of eating and exercising that works wonderfully for YOU.

Not just physically but also mentally. Because you HAVE to feel good in your body…..AND mind.

If you’re in constant food denial and pushing your body to extremes – you’re not going to be happy and fulfilled.

So what’s the point!

But I Don’t Like Exercising!

Yeah you may not like exercising BUT you’ll LOVE the benefits. So focus on those.  AND how you want to feel and look over the next 30-40 years.

  • In a body that’s letting you down, aching, sore and tired?
  • Or in a body that’s energised and rearing to go?
